In our last Cat Nights post, we hinted that there is more than meets the eye when it comes to felines and fashion.

And that’s not to say cat eye. It doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to notice that there are bountiful cat references in the world of style. There’s cat eye makeup, cat eye shades, and — perhaps most peculiarly — cat headbands, the focus of this post.

This curious fashion trend doesn’t really have any single explanation behind it. Who can fathom why precisely Paris Hilton chose to don cat ears as the crowning touch of one of her Coachella outfits?

In other cases, the reasoning is more transparent. For instance, women around the United States put on pink cat ear hats for the Women’s March on Washington in January in order to make a purely political statement. Here specifically, we see cats being used as a symbol in fashion to advocate for women’s rights.

In other cases, it might just be that the fashionista in question is making a fun, playful statement. Maybe it’s simply a way of saying, “Cats are my favorite animal,” or marking National Cat Day (August 8, in case you missed it). Whatever the case, cat ears are another particularly expressive form of feline influence in fashion. Similar to Cat Nights itself, make of it what you want! — jas
