The final Cat Nights post is written in the stars.
Literally! The subject of this last installment in the series is all about the astrology of fashion. Style is of course an outward reflection of your inner essence. At its most fun, astrology is a system of symbols that can be a useful tool in finding clues to both your inward and outward self.
Keep in mind that your moon sign and ascendant sign can play just as big a role in your personality as your sun sign. So if your sun sign writeup doesn’t quite cut it, that could be the reason why. For the most accurate reading, look up your sun sign, moon sign, and ascendant sign if you don’t know them already, and read the writeup for each.
Without further ado, here’s your fashion horoscope!
Aries (March 21 – April 19)
Active, intellectual, and fiery, Aries girls are often so absorbed in their thoughts, they couldn’t care less what they wear! That said, perhaps it was her native Arian energy that prompted Sarah Jessica Parker (born March 25) to actually wear a crown of flames to the Met Gala. The look couldn’t have been more appropriate, since Aries is a fire sign and is associated with the head and mind.
At their best, Aries fashionistas are above trends, and therefore they become trendsetters in the truest sense — usually unintentionally! Their unmistakable style and flair for fun favors bright reds and oranges in pieces of apparel that are easy to throw on and throw off while on the run.
Taurus (April 20 – May 20)
Grounded, composed, and gentle (unless provoked!) Taurus girls are all about earthy hues and sensual fabrics. Anything with texture is sure to be a favorite of theirs. Audrey Hepburn (born May 4) was the epitome of Taurean grace, elegance, and pure unshakeable style. April 9 native Elle Fanning is an inspiring modern day example.
Alluring, light, and refreshing as a spring day, no matter what Taurus fashionistas wear, you can be sure they’ll be both stunning and comfortable as they arrest the attention of everyone who happens to cross their paths.
Gemini (May 21 to June 20)
Probably the best example of Gemini fashion is real-life twins Mary-Kate and Ashlee Olsen. Born on June 13, they definitely embody the duality of their sign. Gemini fashionistas don’t have one sense of style — but two. You’ll see your favorite Gemini in conservative monochrome one day and bright, flashy patterns the next. Her clothing choices surprise her as often as they surprise onlookers!
Versatile and mutable, Gemini closets never stay the same. Instead, change is the name of their sartorial game. Gift them anything, whether a zany pineapple pinafore or a crisp houndstooth blazer, and you can bet they’ll wear it. But maybe only once, when they’re in just the right mood.
Cancer (June 21 to July 22)
Cancer fashionistas are as warm and sunny as the months they’re born in, and their style follows suit. Breezy and entrancing, they can also turn up the temperature and step out in ensembles that are nothing if not hot, hot, hot! And their appeal doesn’t necessarily come from sexy elements — in fact, their style tends to be more conservative if anything.
Selena Gomez (born July 22) is a true Cancer in the sense that no matter what she wears, she radiates charm and energy. Primary colors are Cancer’s go-to and she’s never afraid to work a statement pair of boots or high heels into the lineup.
Leo (July 23 to August 22)
Leo ensembles are designed to make the spotlight swing over to them and never want to budge again. Exuberant and gregarious, these socialites channel their sign’s symbol, the lion. True A-type personalities, they’re also alphas in whatever arena they choose to make their own. Jennifer Lawrence (born August 15) has a knack for stealing the show with her quirky personality, sharp tongue, and leonine fashion choices.
Even if Leo’s sometimes over-the-top and abrasive qualities can be a turnoff at first, their quick wit and sincere good nature will win over anyone, if not their courageous hems and daring necklines. Born leaders, no one can jumpstart a trend the way a Leo can. But by the time everyone else is on board, Leo will have moved on to conquer another style goal. Two words: fabulous magnificence. Or magnificent fabulousness, if you prefer. Both do justice to awesome Leos.
Virgo (August 23 to September 22)
Perfection is a priority for the Virgo fashionista more than any other sign. Every ensemble is a masterpiece, and that includes the flawless hair and makeup to polish it all off. Though sometimes drawn to clean lines and materials with a glossy finish, there’s plenty of room for experimentation in Virgo’s closet, as long as it’s conducted scientifically.
Zendaya (born September 1) is a great, mercurial example. Even when she bursts onto the scene in an extravagant and even shocking outfit, it’s always a very calculated sartorial risk. She’s never struck a false fashion note, and because she’s a Virgo, she’s not likely to.
Libra (September 23 to October 22)
Balance, poise, practicality: those are the tenets of Libra fashion. Late September and October natives are always weighing the pros and cons of each wardrobe decision. Harmony is key, and that extends beyond apparel itself. The products to be found in your makeup case and your bathroom cabinets will all reflect your conscientiousness and heightened awareness of the details when you’ve got Libra in your sign. Born September 27, it’s Gwyneth Paltrow’s Libra sense and sensibilities that have turned her into a fashion and lifestyle guru.
Always practical, always poised, Libras are especially adept at mixing and matching various articles that you might not think would go together well. These bear Libra’s stamp of unique ingenuity when they’re combined.
Scorpio (October 23 to November 21)
Intensity, intensity, intensity. Those are the three standout features of Scorpios — in that order. Same goes for their serious style. Scorpio is the sign that’s most uninhibited when it comes to showing off a little skin, breaking out suggestive items, and amping up the sexy side of any outfit. Born November 3, Kendall Jenner is a Scorpio and she plays it to the hilt. Mysterious and with a definite don’t-mess-with-me attitude, there isn’t much a Scorpio won’t try on. By the same token, there also isn’t much that a Scorpio won’t look superb in.
Black is Scorpio’s color — it sums up the gravitas of what they’re all about, and sophistication is never far out of their reach, either. Watch out for Scorpios — they like to give the impression they have a dangerous side, and usually they really do. They’ll slay you again and again with their depth, their smile, and their scintillating style.
Sagittarius (November 22 to December 21)
The wildcard of the Zodiac! Sagittarius is all about trying something new, so just when you think you’ve got their style figured out, they’ll surprise you. November and December natives can’t sit still and their restless energy usually sends them on trips across town if not across the world. Therefore jet-setter pieces that will serve them as well at dinner in Cuba as breakfast in Paris twelve hours later are essential.
Imaginative and theatrical even if she’s not literally circling the globe, Sagitta likes to slip in and out of different characters through her clothing, and an element of surprise is never missing from even the most seemingly straightforward ensembles. Zoe Kravitz (born December 1) was tapping into her Sagittarian roots when she went platinum, then chopped off her micro braids after sporting a chic undercut for a stint. Endlessly inspiring to others, dear Sadge herself gets bored easily. When that happens, watch for a dramatic makeover.
Capricorn (December 22 to January 19)
Named after her birth month, January Jones (born January 5) is actually one of the best Capricorn style icons you could ask for. Even when she’s not wearing something vintage, her pragmatic ensembles have a timeless quality. Pure class is central to Capricorn closets, which are often simple but full of stories. Every piece will have a history, whether it’s a handmade garment handed down from grandma or an eccentric thrift store find. Tradition is important to the Capricorn girl. So is comfort, coziness, and color. When she’s wearing pastels she seems most herself.
Feminine and approachable, whatever Capricorn wears will be carefully thought out. And there’s literally no one better to turn to if you need to borrow a blouse or a blazer for a last minute business meeting or job interview. The phrase “dress for success” isn’t necessary with Capricorn — for them, it’s second nature. And the success is already theirs for the taking, anyway!
Aquarius (January 20 to February 18)
Is it the Age of Aquarius yet? It is for Aquarius fashionistas, who bring their lighthearted and free spirited approach to life with them in everything they do. There are many different types of Aquarius girls, but you can usually pick them out in a crowd. She’s the bohemian at the music festival who looks like she’s really living her dream, not just following the crowd. She’s the avant-garde mosher at the punk show wearing a funky mohawk and spiky boots. She’s the cosmopolitan city girl sipping a martini and checking her Armani watch.
Whatever the manifestation of Aquarian energy, she’s putting her authentic self into her look. Her powerful ability to express herself will make you want to do the same. Chloe Grace Moretz (born February 10) is a prime example of an Aquarian beauty who can pull off literally any look she feels like at a given moment.
Pisces (February 19 to March 20)
Of the whole Zodiac, Pisces is the most difficult to pin down — about as easy as grabbing hold of a brook trout with your bare hands. The Pisces fashionista seems to have it all and, better still, know it all. She has the ins and outs of fashion figured out, but good luck getting any of her secrets out of her. She’s too busy sipping some tea she special ordered direct from Tangier while poring over some kind of ancient philosophical or spiritual text. Now you see her, now you don’t. But wow is that brief glimpse you get ravishing!
Born February 20, Rihanna is a Pisces. She fits the bill in that she’s supernaturally talented at everything she sets her mind to, including fashion design. She also has the ability to completely and totally command the red carpet during the scarce moments she’s on it. The mesmerizing creations she debuts somehow can never be too over-the-top. That’s probably thanks to her personality, which can back up anything she wears. Need we mention imperial canary embroidery or pink tulle confections? — jas
