The finale of Fashion Week MN Fall 2017 wraps up a delightfully refreshing week of runway shows as well as trunk shows, pop-up shops, and parties in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Style enthusiasts who made it out to one or more of several fun get-togethers had their chance to hobnob with designer Samantha Rei, of Project Runway Season 16 fame. And one of the most unmissable events? Crosswalk by Cliche.

Dubbed a “traveling fashion show” by the Twin Cities Pioneer Press, this is the second time that uptown boutique Cliché has transformed Lyndale Avenue into a catwalk. The store’s dynamic display last spring included memorable palm frond crowns. For autumn, local designers Jenny Carle and Mikaela Harrod once again served up an array of outfits that proved to be quite literally traffic-stopping.

Highlights included trendy velvet in comfy separates accompanied by rustic rope accessories, including belts and earrings. A nautical vibe mingled with vintage touches, including a few Royal Tenenbaums worthy moments that blended quirkiness with whimsy for a delightfully off-kilter, yet ultimately grounded result. Overall, practicality reigned. This is Minnesota, after all, and a potentially harsh winter is never very far away.

FashionWeekMN.com describes itself as, “a semi annual initiative from a collective of independent producers and designers with a mission of community engagement and celebrating the best designers, brands, retailers, stylists, and producers in the Minnesota fashion industry.” Cheers to another season of superb fashion, Minnesota! Look to these designers for cues on how to keep stylishly warm this season. — jas
