You can’t help but be in awe of Willow Smith.

The daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith appears to have been born a fearless risk taker. At the age of 17 (she celebrates her birthday today) she’s one of those rare triple threat performers in Hollywood who can sing, dance, and act.

In terms of fashion, she was walking the red carpet at the age of six and sitting front row at Emporio Armani shows when she was 11. She’s especially a role model for those who are even younger than she is, but no matter how old you are, you’ve probably been stopped in your tracks more than once by her zany outfits, which are as liberating as they are inventive.

Willow has an instinct for pushing boundaries just far enough, without actually crossing any lines. Leopard print on leopard print? Yep. Tartan on tartan? Yes, she’s mastered that combo, too. And need we point out the lace up Converse pants?

Her ultra-famous parents aside, Willow was catapulted into fame on her own terms when she released her wildly popular music video, “Whip My Hair” at the age of nine. Since then, she’s appeared in multiple movies and many of her songs have been impressively hot on the music charts.

All the while, Willow’s sense of style has been evolving at warp speed. “Whip My Hair” turned out to be a prescient title in terms of how Willow likes to constantly switch up her hairdo game. Braided cornrows, an undercut bouffant, and a bubblegum pink buzzcut are just the beginning. She has a penchant for fierce, adventurous outfits. And you never know what she’s going to wear next.

She and her brother Jaden ruled the red carpet at last year’s Met Gala in similar monochrome looks. Willow opted for a sleek black jumpsuit and textured jacket from Chanel. She’s an ambassador for the label, so it should come as no surprise that many of her awesome outfits these days are Lagerfeld inventions.

Recently, she gathered her dreadlocks in bright red ribbons to match her vivid swipes of eyeliner. A leather jacket toughened things up while a pair of wide legged pants grounded everything in pure cool factor. If her latest appearances are any indication, Willow’s style is only going to get more provocative and edgy. The epitome of a rebellious teen in a sartorial sense, Willow is unstoppable, and the fashion set can’t look away. — jas
