Lupita Nyong’o makes dreams come true every time she steps out on the red carpet.

Over the course of just a few years in Hollywood, the breakout starlet has been responsible for quite a few memorable fashion moments. In honor of her 35th birthday, which she’ll celebrate this March 1, here are a few of the most magical, in review.

Every girl in the world collectively gasped in delight when the Last Jedi star arrived at the 2014 Oscars in a floor length, light blue gown right out of a Disney film. Accessorizing with Fred Leighton jewelry, the item was infinitely twirlable.

A couple months later, Lupita displayed an unexpected penchant for sheer razzmatazz. Her flapper-inspired Met Gala outfit drew its fair share of critics, with its bejeweled netting and green feather embellishments. But whether people loved it or hated it, you can be sure they remembered it, and that’s the mark of a true fashion statement.

Setting aside her preference for Prada, the celeb slipped into a Calvin Klein creation composed of over 6,000 pearls for the 2015 Academy Awards. Famously, the jaw-dropping dress was so desirable, someone stole it. (The story has a happy ending though: the dress was eventually returned to its rightful owner.) Even if it hadn’t been involved in a scandal, this dress immediately earned a place on every Best Oscars Dresses List that will ever be put together from that day forward (yes, ours included).

And who will ever forget Lupita twirling magically on the 2015 Cannes red carpet in her flowing green Gucci dress? No one. Give her credit, this celeb has found a formula that works for her and is sticking to it. Namely, flowing pieces in soft, solid hues.

A decoratively knotted turban topped off the pale lilac dress she took to the Queen of Katwe premiere. Though she’s also made a point to take creations from Ugandan, Nigerian, and Cameroonian designers to the red carpet, this stripe-trimmed creation originated with Lebanese designer Elie Saab.

And her skirt twirling moments just keep getting better! The Atelier Versace gown she took to the premiere of Black Panther was dyed a rich shade of royal purple and accented with glimmering, ornate gold. While following her tried-and-true formula, this outfit displayed all new levels of maturity and luxury. We’re looking forward to seeing what she steps out in next. — jas
