Look out, Angelina! Alicia Vikander is the new Lara Croft on the block.

The 29-year-old Swedish actress will take up the role in the upcoming reboot of Tomb Raider, set to release this March 16. Formerly, Angelina Jolie played the archaeologist-adventurer in two films, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and The Cradle of Life. Released between 2001 and 2003, the movies helped cement Jolie’s superstar status.

Based on the highly popular videogame character, Jolie’s interpretation involved form-fitting short shorts and tank tops. Judging by the previews, Vikander’s outfits appear to involve a similar brand of bodycon practicality suitable for questing through arid terrains.

Going by standards set by the original videogames, there are only a few staples necessary to channel Lara Croft’s style. They include a sleeveless top, short shorts, and if possible, an impressive pair of boots. Gigi Hadid, her sister Bella, and Kendall Jenner are just three supermodels who love to rock the look, especially on hot summer days.

Can we expect Alicia to start slipping Tomb Raider-inspired cues into her own wardrobe? Actually, she’s already pretty adept at working in elements like armored bodices, hardware-accented belts, and structured leather, at least on the red carpet.

With a proven flair for edgy, adventurous looks, it will be interesting to see how Alicia puts her personal stamp on quintessential Lara Croft style. — jas
