Count Hubert de Givenchy has passed away at the age of 91.
The name Givenchy is synonymous with sophistication and luxury. It seems almost incredible that the fashion house was started by just one man.
The designer secured his place in fashion history managing the wardrobes of Jacqueline Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn. Another fan, Elizabeth Taylor, helped propel his creations to the most elevated echelons of style.
The label, which celebrated its 65th birthday last year, has been enjoying especially high levels of popularity lately. This past awards season alone, Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie, and Gal Gadot opted for classy monochrome Givenchy gowns.
The label’s most recent show’s elegant offering of Fall 2018 outfits from creative director Ricardo Tisci was also extremely well-received, praised for the way it drew from the house’s heritage.
Each Givenchy ensemble is notable for the sort of exquisite detailing and flawless tailoring that has always set the label apart from others. A towering genius adored by the industry, the label’s namesake will be missed. — jas
