You think you know faux fur?
It might be time to think again. The series of unbelievably opulent coats that Givenchy sent down their latest catwalk redefine the environmentally friendly material. Plush and vivid, they make the real stuff look fake, by comparison.
If any label can raise the bar for what it means to be sophisticated, it’s Givenchy, and creative director Clare Waight Keller did not disappoint on March 4. Her decision to use faux fur seems especially relevant in the wake of moves by Gucci (in October) and Versace (in March) to phase out fur, as well.
With three of fashion’s mega labels joining houses like Calvin Klein, Vivienne Westwood, and Armani, all of which have been finding alternatives to real fur for awhile now, a true tidal shift is clearly taking place. And this eco-friendly sea change comes just in time for Earth Day on April 22! So when it comes time to start looking for an incredibly luxurious coat to bundle up in this winter, look no further than these sustainable and eminently desirable options. — jas
