No, you’re not imagining things. A few Cannes ensembles look more than a little familiar.

The tone this year was set by jury president Cate Blanchett, who chose to re-wear a favorite Armani Privé gown at the opening ceremony. Fashion savvy fans immediately recognized the black lace confection from the 2014 Golden Globes. Cate deliberately recycled the gown to make a stylish statement for sustainability.

But her dress isn’t the only one that’s giving us déjà vu!

Exhibit One: Julianne Moore in Givenchy Couture

Another Cannes regular stood out vividly on the opening night red carpet: Julianne Moore, swathed in scarlet Givenchy Couture fitted with a feather-lined cape.

The beautiful piece’s bright hue and sharp, clean lines vividly recalled the slit Valentino dress donned by Fan Bingbing at Cannes last year.

And another extremely similar example of a bright red dress fitted with a statement cape? You guessed it: Kate Moss’s fiery Halston Heritage design at Cannes 2016.

Exhibit Two: Julianne Moore in Saint Laurent

Whether coincidentally or deliberately, Julianne sent us back searching through the Cannes archives again last night at the premiere of Yomeddine. This time she stepped out in sophisticated Saint Laurent accessorized with a pendant Chopard necklace.

The sublime balance between her necklace and pointy neckline irresistibly brought to mind Julia Roberts’s appearance at the 69th Cannes Film Festival in solid black Armani Privé. Complemented by a dazzling emerald necklace (also from Chopard, incidentally), Julia’s outfit has since become one of the most emulated Cannes moments of all time.

Julianne certainly isn’t the first to echo the classy look. Supermodel Cindy Bruna beat her to it last year in off-shoulder Ulyana Sergeenko teamed with a brilliant De Grisogono choker.

And someone else had the same idea last night: Irina Shayk! The top model was basically twinning with Julianne in her monochrome Twinset gown and gleaming Chopard necklace.

Maybe such amazing parallels shouldn’t come as a surprise. After all, Cannes is synonymous with classic glamour, and it’s safe to say that all of these ensembles are as classic and glamorous as it gets. Familiar yet refreshing at the same time, we can’t wait to see what will turn up next! — jas
