Sarah Jessica Parker’s portrayal of the shoe-obsessed Carrie Bradshaw is legendary in fashion circles, and for good reason.
Viewed through one lens, Sex and the City was a campaign dedicated to a “Woman’s Right to Shoes,” as one episode was tellingly titled. Coming up on its 20th anniversary, the show had endless fun with Carrie’s lovable brand of footwear fanaticism.
After realizing she’s spent $40,000 on shoes and has nowhere to live, Carrie quips, “I will literally be the old woman who lived in her shoes.” She freaks out when she finds a pair of Manolo Blahnik Mary Janes in Vogue’s fashion closet, claiming she believed them to be an “urban shoe myth.” While being mugged, she begs, “You can take my Fendi Baguette, you can take my ring and my watch, but don’t take my Manolo Blahniks.” To top it all, Mr. Big actually proposes with a pair of royal blue, gem encrusted Hangisi pumps.
In real life, Sarah Jessica Parker is a fan of many of the same brands as her on-screen counterpart. SJP loves Louboutins and, of course, can frequently be spotted in Manolo Blahniks. She even has a pair of bedazzled Hangisis like Carrie’s from the show.
Sarah Jessica has also produced an eponymous shoe line of her own, which she launched in 2014. Many SJP creations make direct nods to Sex and the City and they can frequently be seen on the star’s feet. Fellow celebs like Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington are also fans.
