“My style is a distillation.”

So said Jamie Lee Curtis in an interview that AARP appropriately titled, “The Essential Jamie Lee Curtis.” If there’s one word that sums up what this style icon is all about, it’s “essential.”

“The same way that midcentury modern architecture was in the ’50s, I want to be as a human being,” Jamie said in the same interview. “New. Different. Challenging the old. Function over frivolity. Clean living. Clean lines.”

Jamie’s no-nonsense straight-talk really tallies with her style. “I’ve etched out who I am through myriad haircut attempts, outfit attempts, beauty attempts, diet attempts. It’s been an evolution,” she told AARP. “Every year I buy three or four black dresses that I just keep in rotation. I own one pair of blue jeans. I’ve given away all my jewelry, because I don’t wear it.”

In time for her 60th birthday this November 22, take some inspiration from Jamie’s wardrobe! Whether you picture this actress with her signature pixie cut, a favorite long-sleeved dress, or a memorable costume from My Girl or A Fish Called Wanda, she’s a true style soothsayer. — jas
