Blogger Caroline Daur took a pastel masterpiece of a Jil Sander design to the Chloe runway show during Paris Fashion Week - March 2, 2017

Of all designers, Jil Sander taught us that “simple” doesn’t have to mean “boring.”

Known as “The Queen of Less,” the minimalist German designer turns 75 this November 27. In her honor, we’ve picked out 10 chic ensembles that incorporate pieces from her namesake label’s lineups.

Sometimes, less really is more. And hey, who’s to say that more can’t be more, too? Jil Sander aficionado Caroline Daur loves to take a piece from the iconic house and shake things up by adding items that are the opposite of minimal, or by piling on the statement accents.

On one outing, she used a rough-edged Jil Sander sweater in steel grey to ground a camo puffer coat. On another occasion, one of the label’s ivory coats topped a cherry red shirt and pearl-encrusted shoes.

The result might have been over-the-top if it wasn’t for that unobtrusive anchor — compliments of The Queen of Less — holding everything together.

And one of Caro’s best Jil Sander moments took a dress from the Spring 2017 collection to Paris Fashion Week. Pale pink, textured, and cinched with a belt, the result was pure elegance.

Blogger Valentina Siragusa is another Jil Sander fan. She used one of the brand’s envelope clutches in rich brown leather to punctuate a dark ensemble of warm burgundy tones.

People rightly think of simplicity as central to Jil Sander. But there was nothing subtle about a fun choker necklace picked out by Erika Boldrin. The fabulous piece had the label’s name stamped across it, chicly tapping into the logomania craze.

But of course, the reputation for simplicity is well-deserved. More in that tradition, Celine Aagaard casually slung a black Jil Sander bag shaped by mod lines over a cut-out sweater in Stockholm for Fashion Week.

One of the best things about more minimal Jil Sanders items is that they can tone down a big statement, such as the bright pants picked out by Jan-Michael Quammie. Coordinated with an earthy Jil Sander top, the look was beautifully balanced.

On the other hand, another Jil Sander bag, this one sharp cut in mustard yellow, added pizzaz to an otherwise rather subdued ensemble put together by Evangelie Smyrniotaki.

Vanessa Hong achieved a slick, contemporary vibe with the help of a graceful top from the German label in a calming shade of cloud grey. Texture and shape came together in this piece, making it highly striking.

And last but certainly not least, Helena Bordon shows us how to let loose in a controlled way with wild colors and a boxy Jil Sander shirt. A pair of glasses from the blogger’s own line of sunglasses provided an expressive finishing touch. — jas
